J. ROBERT GADDIS
Resumė
Dr. J. Robert Gaddis has retired from Campbellsville University and is now Professor Emeritus of Music. Dr. Gaddis served as head administrator in the School of Music at Campbellsville University for twenty-six years. In July, 2012, Gaddis stepped down from the Dean position and returned to the full-time faculty status. In addition to conducting the University Orchestra, teaching responsibilities for Dr. Gaddis include music education courses, conducting classes, applied conducting, and applied tuba.
Dr. Gaddis has been listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and was named as Distinguished Professor at Campbellsville University in 1999. In 2003, Dr. Gaddis was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from Kentucky Music Educators Association. He taught music education and conducting classes in the MAM program being offered at the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Recife, Brazil. Dr. Gaddis was the Guest Conductor of the Busan (Korea) Symphony Orchestra in June of 2005 and has served as guest conductor of various honors bands and choirs in Kentucky. Just recently, Dr. Gaddis was guest conductor of the Tainan University of Technology Symphonic Winds in Tainan, Taiwan and guest conductor of the International Youth Music Festival in Tainan, Taiwan.
Dr. Gaddis holds the Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Music Education degrees from Western Kentucky University and the Doctor of Education degree with an emphasis in Music Education from the University of Kentucky. Before coming to Campbellsville University in 1982, Dr. Gaddis directed chorus and bands for seven years in public schools of Kentucky.
Since Dr. Gaddis became the head administrator of the music program, the program has grown from 27 undergraduate music majors to 160 music majors in undergraduate and graduate programs. Also the program achieved national accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The program has added a marching band, various wind and percussion ensembles, choral ensembles, opera workshop and an orchestra and strings program. Dr. Gaddis is a visitor/evaluator in the accrediting process for National Association of Schools of Music.
Because of its significant growth in numbers and excellence in performance, the University Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Gaddis, was invited to perform at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Professional In-Service Conference in February of 2004. In February, 2007 and February, 2014, the String Chamber Ensemble performed at the Kentucky Music Educators Association conference in Louisville. As Dean of Music, Dr. Gaddis has taken the University Jazz Band on three concert tours of Brazil and has managed and co-organized four concert tours of Europe for the University Chorale. Campbellsville University also has developed a strong graduate music program, offering seven master’s degrees on the Campbellsville campus and offered a Master of Arts in Music degree on the campus of the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Recife, Brazil.
Through the efforts of Dr. Gaddis, educational partnerships have been established with Mokwon University, Taijeon, Korea, Tainan University of Technology, Tainan, Taiwan, Federal University of Bahia, Salvador, Brazil, Federal University of Campina Grande, Campina Grande, Brazil, Federal University of Parana, Curitiba, Brazil, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai, China. Educational partnerships have been established with several Baptist institutions in South America.
Dr. Gaddis has served as minister of music in various churches across Kentucky for over thirty years. Professional affiliations in which Dr. Gaddis is involved include a two-year term (1999-2001) as President of the Kentucky Music Educators Association. In his second year as president of KMEA, Kentucky hosted the Southern Division of Music Educators National Conference in their bi-annual meeting. He holds membership in the College Orchestra Directors Association, (CODA), Music Educators National Conference, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha, and Phi Beta Mu Band Fraternity.
